Committee
for Citizens Right to Choose Their Mayor - Yes On Measure A
Measure
A is about whether or not the City should have a directly elected Mayor. The
proponents have chosen the cute title “Citizens Right to Choose Their Mayor”
--
like we don’t already do that by electing our seven Councilmembers. In reality,
if Measure A passes, it will only allow more opportunities for developers,
PACs, and unions to exert more influence on the electoral process in
Sunnyvale. Measure A is being sponsored by termed out, self-serving
politicians who see an opportunity to circumvent Sunnyvale’s existing term
limits. If Measure A passes, it would allow Councilmembers to stay in City Hall
uninterrupted for up to 16 years. Add to that the cost of additional regular and
special elections and you see that Measure A is a bad deal all around for
Sunnyvale residents. Sunnyvale’s government has worked fine for over a 100
years without a directly elected Mayor -- why change now? It looks like
special interests have their grubby little hands all over Yes on Measure A
too. Take a look at the whopping contribution from the developer Jay Paul
Company!
